I’ve heard two variations of the song. One starts off with an acoustic guitar/sax sound and the other with just….well it sounds more up-beat. (If you’ve heard both versions, you would know what I’m talking about) And the vocals in both sound different to me.

I was always told that Edwin McCain sang I’ll Be but when I do say, a Google search of ‘I’ll Be’ I get both Edwin McCain and Goo Goo Dolls results.
Does anyone know if The Goo Goo Dolls by chance covered ‘I’ll Be’? Or does Edwin McCain has two different versions of the song out there?

i have no idea
the goo goo dolls do sing i’ll be but its originally edwin mcains
I live in the same town McCain does. He does lots of appearances and radio show stints… he’s a great guy and a riot.
That song is 100% his. He does an accustic and an electric version. If one is live that might be the difference. I love the Goo Goo Dolls and McCain, and the Goo Goo Dolls, unless they do it live for fun, haven’t covered this song.
BTW: if you love the Goo Goo dolls and Edwin McCain you should check out Josh Groban.
